I caught up with a close girlfriend recently. She confided to me how she just had the most intense, cleansing week. She had spent the week writing notes to all the people in her past to whom she felt she owed an apology.
She was surprised at her own behavior. But her inner guidance must have spoken to her and she felt this need to go back and ask for forgiveness.
Chocolates and Balloons in Hand, He was Shaking
One story she mentioned struck a chord in me. In college, there was a guy who was in love with her. With all his courage, he approached her, shaking with chocolates and balloons in hand. He confessed his feelings to her.
My friend, hardly nineteen or twenty, laughed at him, grabbed the chocolates, and ran away without uttering a word, no care in the world at his confession.
She’s now twenty nine years old and a decade had passed. This had happened in India at her college. Today, she lives with her husband in the heart of the Bay Area, Silicon Valley. Life had taken so many peaks and turns, yet she held onto guilt from this incident.
She mustered the courage and found him on Facebook. She wrote him a note apologizing and asking for forgiveness for something that happened so long ago. His response? He responded back, barely remembering the incident and actually laughed about it.
She told me she was shocked that he barely remembered!
It didn”t really matter whether the person even remembered. But the truth was she had held onto the feelings for many years. And in doing so, she carried this guilt along with her and that energy aligned with everything she did. In letting go those feelings, she felt relief.
When you carry guilt or anger into your heart, you cut yourself off from the divine source. You need to cleanse yourself. Heal yourself. Come from a beautiful place of love. This love-fueled energy will align with every area of your life and bring you only goodness.
Uplifts and Heals You
After sending out her notes of forgiveness, she told me it didn’t even matter to her how they would respond. What mattered more was that she got it out of her system. All these feelings she had held onto for ages. In letting go, she could finally love herself wholly and move forward in her life.
Sometimes, you may hold onto pain and anger for many years and not even realize it until some moment triggers those feelings again. My friend had to let go of her feelings. In her heart, everything was clear. She felt free to soar!
See, it doesn’t even matter what that person’s reaction is. In forgiveness, you end up healing yourself more than anything else.
Most of all, she could finally fill herself up with beauty and goodness. And when you can do that, then you create space for all kinds of miracles to happen.
