I remember hearing the song “Miss Independent” by Ne-Yo. I would hit the play button over and over. I was obsessed with watching the video! In the song, Ne-Yo sings how he’s in love with the woman because she’s an independent woman.
It led me to think how every woman should be an independent woman. Here’s how you can be!
Handle Your Career and Life
Have a grip on the practical aspects of your life and career. Don’t depend on anyone for that. I took initiative and made my novel Enchanted Silence happen. I didn’t wait for anyone to whip up any magic. I whipped up my own magic.
I take care of my rent, money, bills, etc. Handling your life will make you self-efficient and feel confident.
Set Boundaries in Work and Personal Lives
Whether you’re at the workplace or in your personal life, make sure you set boundaries. Know what you are capable of and understand your own strengths and weaknesses. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.
Also, be clear about how much you are willing to take on, whether it’s at the workplace or in a relationship. Communicate your desires.
Have Healthy Relationships
This one is huge. Your friendships and relationships with your family and romantic partners should be healthy. In other words, it should bring out your best and be simple for you to communicate your desires.
Don’t be Afraid to be Vulnerable and Ask For Help
Lastly, being an independent woman does not mean you can’t be emotionally vulnerable. Allow yourself to feel and open up. And ask for help and guidance when you crave it.
