Who is the Women’s Fiction Author behind Enchanted Silence?

August 11, 2014 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

Question: Who is the Women’s Fiction Author behind Enchanted Silence?

Answer: I am just a normal 20-something girl who loves to live in her imagination. I’m also working as a technical recruiter in Silicon Valley and some of my experiences working at offices have contributed to some of those hilarious office scenes you’ll read in Enchanted Silence.

Other than that, I enjoy spending time with my family and pet dog Raja, going out to have a chocolate martini, and laughing the night away with my friends.

Listening to my enchanted silence…

I started writing Enchanted Silence in 2009 and for some inexplicable reason, it became an obsession. It was like I had no choice in this matter, and I was being guided to complete the novel. Several scenes are inspired by my own life, but also stories and anecdotes I heard from my girlfriends and acquaintances.

Life As a 20-something Woman

Being a 20-something woman, I know what it is to live like one, but also looking for meaning in life. I went through my own gamut of experiences through my father’s stroke, dating, working, and it was therapeutic to take all my emotions, lock them up in my head, and then unleash them all in Enchanted Silence.

I remember making Excel spreadsheets to track my progress and cutting out my social life, so I could have the time to write. Heck, I even didn’t go to a couple parties on Saturday nights, so I could sit at home with a glass of wine and write away in solitude! It was not always easy, sometimes I wanted to pull my hair out!

Writing is like Dating Where Your Heart is Beating…

Other times, the words flowed smoothly from my mind to laptop. It was like dating, where your heart is beating and you’re excited and everything is hunky dory at first, and then after some time when you’re in a relationship, you want to scream at him.

Looking back today, I am incredibly thrilled and happy to have completed my women fiction’s novel Enchanted Silence. What is Women’s Fiction, you may be asking? It is a term for women centered books that focus on women’s life experiences  and shows the female journey. Enchanted Silence is not only my journey, but every 20-something woman’s journey in the modern-day world today.

How did you get started on writing your novel, Enchanted Silence?

Question: I get asked often, “How did I get started on writing my novel, Enchanted Silence?

Answer: The idea to even consider writing a book came to me a couple years ago. I vividly remember it was December 2009 and my boss at the time was not the greatest boss and for whatever reason, things were not working out at work and I was shocked and disturbed by the circumstances.

President Obama Inspired Me to Write My Novel

So I went to a book store and picked up President Obama’s memoir, Dreams from My Father. I’ve always loved to read and drown myself in a fabulous book to forget everything on my mind. But while reading this book, I cannot explain the feeling, but I developed this deep yearning to write a book.

I had no idea why, what, or how, but I would lay awake late at night and the thought would float into my head. So I finally started and it mainly started as a way to cope with work, but ultimately this book took on its own life and I couldn’t stop myself.

Also, during the four years it took me to complete Enchanted Silence, lots of changes hurled into my life:

  • My father had a stroke
  • I was driven to write
  • Find some kind of outlet to express my emotions.

Myself in Therapy

In many ways, this book has been therapeutic and though this story is not true, it was my way of dealing with my own emotions and life.

And I am so thrilled I wrote Enchanted Silence because I proved to myself that I am capable of a lot more than I think, if only I open my mind and allow myself.
