Aishwarya Rai and Her Weight Gain – A Message to All Women

November 8, 2014 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

In case you don’t know who Aishwarya Rai is, she is a popular Indian actress worldwide. She was crowned Miss World in 1994 and starred in top grossing Bollywood films along with some international movies.

Aishwarya Rai: Her Weight Gain

Aishwarya Rai: Her Weight Gain

She is considered the world’s most beautiful woman and when she became married, that made huge news. Well, of course, when she got pregnant that made equal news. And the way she looked after she delivered her baby daughter Aaradhya, that was even bigger news!

The Press and News Coverage Criticized Her

There were loads of articles and television coverage on her weight gain and why she couldn’t have gotten in shape. They criticized her for being overweight after her delivery and not getting back into “perfect” shape.

I understand that she is a public figure and she is bound to have her share of criticism. But this really bugged me. Especially as a woman.

Many Months Later, Aishwarya Was at the Same Weight…

It was being said why she couldn’t shed the pounds when she had all the resources at hand being rich and famous.

My question is: Why should she lose weight right away? Isn’t this her personal decision?

Being a star actress, she is expected to look good, but shouldn’t she being a woman first be allowed this liberty? She had just given birth! There were personal reasons as to why she decided to not get in shape right away. Maybe she wanted to enjoy motherhood first before hitting the gym like a maniac. Whatever the reason, it is HER body and reasons.

Let a Woman Be As She Wishes

Why do we hold women to unreasonable expectations? Whether a woman wants to get fit right away after birth or chooses to embrace her weight gain, why are we criticizing her? Why don’t we celebrate that here is a woman completely comfortable with her body and still feels beautiful inside and outside? Isn’t this the very message we should be sending to women the world over?
