Movie Theater Guy Story – Are We Becoming too Impatient and Inconsiderate?

November 21, 2014 by Priyanka 3 Comments

I went to watch a movie last weekend. The move I had chosen to see had been out for a few weeks, so though the theater hall wasn’t crazy packed, but for a Saturday night, it was still decently crowded.

Impatient, Inconsiderate People

Impatient, Inconsiderate People

Luckily, I came early with my friend and we grabbed good seats early.

The Hall was Filled with Couples, Friends, and Families

The movie we watched was family friendly and attractive to children, so it was only natural there would be several families with kids.

Obviously, I expected a normal amount of noise during the movie, especially with kids present. I’m relatively tolerant because I feel parents deserve and should go out and enjoy themselves and take their family along with them. As long as the noise is not out of control or outrageous, it’s fine to have some noise.

Suddenly, A Child Starts Crying Loudly…

When this happened, it was during the middle of the movie and right in the middle of an intense, thrilling scene. But that child is a kid after all. She didn’t plan to cry out loudly deliberately during that scene.

It was Not Even 20 Seconds Later, When the Guy next to Me Shouted: “Fucking Idiot”

I was alarmed and shocked. And then I felt IMMENSE anger. I understand it’s disturbing his movie, but give the parent a break! While this rude, inconsiderate young man (probably around my age or in his 30s) shouted, the parent had already risen from his seat and carried his child down the stairs before this young man could finish his sentence.

It was not like the parent was letting his child cry for half an hour. He got up and took his child outside to quiet him down.

I turned to my right and gave the guy a hard glance. Because it was in the middle of a movie, I didn’t do it, but I REALLY wanted to tell that guy: “Hey, watch your language and talk with respect. That parent got up from his seat and took his child downstairs to quiet her down.”

Is a Movie More Important than Common Courtesy and Patience?

I’m noticing this in our society today more and more. Why not make it a better place by practicing some simple acts of kindness and courtesy?
