Transitions are exciting times! But I find them equally nerve wracking and emotionally intense. Many changes have swum into my life the last coupe years, so I have to say I am way more open to change.
But this year in particular has been bringing up all sorts of baggage, triggers, and fears in me. It’s been…overwhelming. I continue to turn inwards and discover new things about myself – both joyful and uncomfortable.
If you are going through a similar period, here are my tips to help make your transition seamless and more comfortable:
Accept You Will Feel Discomfort in the Transition
Your buttons will be pushed during the in-between phase. That phase where you know you are going somewhere, but haven’t yet reached there.
The best thing to do is to accept wholeheartedly that you will experience some discomfort. The transition will trigger fears and anxieties. The sooner you accept that, the easier it will be.
Surrender to the Changes
Be like the river. Don’t resist the changes. Just surrender to them completely. Let them come and take it in your stride.
Still Yourself and Listen
When you find your anxieties speaking to you, it’s easy to let them get the best of you. Your mind starts getting into overdrive and fear starts to take a hold of you.
When you are in that space, you will feel compelled to respond or react in some way. Do the exact opposite. Close your eyes and become very still. Relax your hands, toes, chest, every part of your body. If it helps, play some music while doing this.
Feel the tension and discomfort. And then listen to what your soul and heart truly desire. You’ll know when to act later.
Take It One Day At a Time
Mostly, take it one day at a time. Don’t think twenty days ahead. Just let each moment unfold gently. Be kind to yourself in this process.
