Chicken Soup for the Soul Friday – “Hi there, Nice Pants!”

April 12, 2015 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

“Lately, a  fashion trend has emerged to wear different colored pants instead of just the standard blue. Now girls wear, pink, red, gray, yellow, green, and many other colors.

Compliment Someone and Make Their Day!

Compliment Someone and Make Their Day!

I bought myself a shiny blue pant that I loved and also because blue is my favorite color. I wore these pants to work one day.

Everyone from my co-worker to the coffee barista to the random guy on the street complimented my pants. I can’t tell you how good it made me feel inside. No matter how old we are, everyone loves a compliment!” – Priyanka

Chicken Soup for the Soul Friday! – Don’t Build Walls Around You

April 5, 2015 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

Today’s Chicken Soup for the Soul Friday is by a young man named Rob.

“I had fallen out with a close friend and was not in touch with him for a while due to a misunderstanding. My perception of the situation was that he didn’t care enough to sort it out. I deleted his number from my phone thinking I’ll not hear from him.

Do Not Build Walls Around You

Do Not Build Walls Around You

After a long time, to my surprise, I received a text message asking me how I was and if I’d be willing to hang out with him when he’s back in town like the good ol’ days. I realized my perception of the situation and him was wrong and that perhaps we shouldn’t immediately come to a conclusion. I must also confess it was really nice to hear from him because I did miss him.”

It’s easy to build walls around us and become entangled in our own perceptions of a person or situation when it may not be like that at all. It’s not worth throwing away a valuable relationship or friendship over a misunderstanding.

So next time, that happens, pull out your phone and give them a ring or text. You’ll be glad you did 🙂

Go with What Feels Right Rather than Being Hung Up on Morals

March 22, 2015 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

“I have a hard time with morals. All I know is what feels right, what’s more important to me is being honest about who you are. Morals I get a little hung up on.” – Brad Pitt

Have you ever felt in life there were no right or wrong answers? That things weren’t clear cut. The world could judge you for the choices you make and easily divide your choices into one of two categories.

Brad Pitt: Follow Your Heart and Go with What Feels Right

Brad Pitt: Follow Your Heart and Go with What Feels Right

There is No Black Or White – Only Gray

The world will tell you there is black or white. But strangely, the older I become, the more I realize there really isn’t any black or white in life. Mostly grays.

It’s easy to lump people and their decisions into categories and slap a label on it. But what is really truly right?

When I saw this quote by Brad Pitt, it’s why it struck a major chord in my heart. I also believe that it’s more important to go with what feels right in your heart, rather than being hung up on morals.

Embrace the Messiness and Chaos of Life

When you get hung up on morals, you are too caught up in a rigid structure. You are not listening to your inner guidance and desires.

This requires embracing that your inner desires may be a reflection of the messiness and chaos of life.

Follow Your Magical Inner Nudge

Either way, it’s better to follow your heart and go by that gut feeling and risk your decisions not being favored by others, rather than to follow morals just for the sake of it and feeling empty inside.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Friday! – “Before I die I Want to Find a Partner”

March 20, 2015 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

“Earlier this week, I volunteered at the TED (TEDxSanJoseCA) event held in Santana Row in San Jose. My role as volunteer was to encourage people to write down what they wanted to do before they died. Several huge black boards were set up around the event and attendees and the public came and added something to the board.

Your True Desires in Life

Your True Desires in Life

There was definitely a couple amusing ones written like ‘Before I die I want to co-star with Channing Tatum’ or ‘Before I die I want to have sex on the royal set’ (don’t ask me what this one means!). But this one stood out to me the most and the cutest. An elderly lady around seventy-ish wrote: ‘Before I die I want to find a partner.’” – Priyanka

Here’s a photo of the black boards on the right 🙂

Mom Teaches Bullying Daughter to Realize “it’s stupid and it’s mean. It hurts them.”

March 10, 2015 by Priyanka Leave a Comment

I came across this article: http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/mom-makes-bullying-daughter-wear-old-thrift-store-141600231.html

Bullying Must Be Discouraged

Bullying Must Be Discouraged

“Someone not wanting to go to school anymore based off of something that one other little person said to them. I mean, that’s huge, that’s damaging.” – Ally, Stepmother of Daughter

When Ally heard her daughter was calling another student names and teasing her for her clothing, she took the matter in her own hands. She purchased thrift store outfits for her daughter to wear to school. She was called names and humiliated, and realized what she had done to her classmate.

Guide Your Children to Be Authentic and Emphatic

Though her strategy is unique and you may agree or not agree with it, there is no denying she taught her daughter a valuable lesson. Doing so, she ultimately enabled her daughter to put herself in another person’s shoes and develop human empathy.

Bullying is A Major Issue Today

Youngsters are going through it in college, high school, and even as early as in elementary school. This was a great example of a mother teaching her child bullying is wrong and making a change in her daughter while she is young.

Do you have any thoughts on bullying? Do you or know anyone else going through something similar? Please share with me in the comments.
