How are you feeling?
A couple weeks ago, I was having a conversation with my roommate about what emotionally triggers us to react in a certain way. It was an intimate and baring kind of conversation. We spoke about how certain things have been creating emotional reactions in us since childhood. I told her I’m not really good with expressing myself most of the time. Heck, sometimes, I don’t even want to admit or express my emotions to my own self!
One topic in our conversation really moved me and I had to share it with you.
Check with Yourself Throughout the Day
Let me give you some background on my roommate. She is a software engineer at a leading company in the Bay Area and came to the United States from India about six years ago. Most of her family is still based in India. She told me how she checks with herself throughout the day since there is no one here to ask how she is feeling or doing.
When she was at home, her mother or father would often ask her: How are you feeling? How is your day going? But now she asks these questions to herself! She learned to be kind to herself whenever she was not feeling great. She tried to be there for herself.
Build a Strong Inner Foundation
Why don’t we ask these questions to ourselves? Even if our loved ones are present. Now, I stop and pause in my day to ask myself: How are you feeling right now, darling?
When you check with yourself emotionally, you learn to understand what makes you happy and what doesn’t. You focus on fulfilling your needs and building a strong love-driven inner foundation.
How are you feeling at this moment? Have you checked emotionally with yourself today? Please share in the comments.
