5 Steps to Take When It Doesn’t Work Out With Your Boyfriend

February 5, 2015 by Priyanka 3 Comments

There are many articles and blogs about how to deal with a breakup. They are not easy and often messy. You hear of those “mutual” breakups in Hollywood? I don’t know how true they are in everyday, real life, but if you go through a messy one, know that there are some steps you can take to pull yourself out of the sadness and confusion.

Break Ups Are Messy and Difficult

Break Ups Are Messy and Difficult

Let Yourself Go Through the Tears

This one is probably the most important step. You don’t want to slap on a band-aid over your pain. You want to actually deal with the pain and feel the confusion and emotions. Relationships are about emotional connection and when they end, your emotions are going to be all over the place.

Go through the tears. Mope around your house. Eat take out. Do whatever you need to do. Call your girlfriend and cry your eyes out. Be patient with yourself. Take however much time you need in the process.

Don’t Rehash the Same Story

Once you go through the previous step and feel like you are in a saner place, try not to rehash the same story in your head over and over. This is when it’s important to immerse yourself in activities that make you feel happy. It’s when you surround yourself with friends and loved ones.

Acceptance

Going through this experience means you have to accept and let go. This breakup may have been very well against your plans, but you must surrender to the events unfolding. You have to accept because there is a greater reason behind it.

Find Peace Within

Seek inner peace inside. Do some meditation. Go for a talk. Do whatever brings you into the present moment and allows you to dive deeper into your heart.

Move Forward

If you feel comfortable, dip your toe in the dating pool. Or stay single and make a romance out of your own life. Either way, gently move forward.
